Is there anything to put on the edge of my main sail or the slot in the mast to make the sail go up and down easier? Thanks for any help.

Assuming the slot is clean and straight, this is among the better lubes if not the best

raise your topping lift till you get the sail up...

I use sailkote once or twice a year on several things including the mast track (slot)...also seems to make my traveler motion much easier.

I use dish detergent. You don't have to worry about buildup.

PB Blaster makes a drylube,I,ve used it .Helps
