Ericson 29 Southport..
This weekend I'm gonna take a little two day trip up to Oriental, N.C., and was wondering if anybody up that way knew any decent lofts that may carry a used headsail. I'm looking for a roller sail for an Ericson 29 tall rig specifically. I can do the usual internet search for lofts, but I was just hoping to get some "inside" information about who, and where up there to save going to everyone in town.

If this fails, I may well end up ordering from Bacon I guess. Unless this particular sail rings a bell with anybody else about a better "plan".

Thanks peoples.

Probably the most extensive loft is Banks sails on Straight Rd near NC55. You also can check the Consignment Shop on Broad St across from North St. Not a lot of used sails in town. A lot of us use Bacon and Sail Warehouse in FL. I have no affiliation with these businesses.

Chris, our Sabre is currently on the hard in Oriental and we had our main cleaned and repaired by Outer Banks Sails. They do excellent work and came recommended by the local yard! They're a Doyle outlet as well. I didn't see many used sails for sale at their shop.

OK, thanks guys. I'm on the way up there now, and that consignment store is DEFINITIVELY on my agenda. I got up there one time on a Tuesday and that was their closed day. Of all the luck.
There was also one in New Bern that I breezed through as well, I hope that it is still there.

Well, I've gotta admit. A WHOLE lot of stuff in this consignment shop. Saw a 2300 dollar Torquedo motor even. Even though I didn't find a head sail, it was worth the trip for what I got.

Side note: I have no "interest" in this store whatsoever.

But if you ever get to Oriental, it will be cool place for you to dig through. I think I may go back tomorrow even. Some of that stuff has been buried for so long that the proprietor didn't even know it was there. And he negotiated on everything I bought, which was a lot. A whisker pole for 40 bucks. Rope clutch for 40. I didn't even try to barter down on those two.

NSter, you've GOTTA stop by there. From the street, it really doesn't look like much, but it is a virtual gold mine of marine goodies. I dug around in there for hours, bought some really cool stuff. It is sort of sectioned out into different "categories", so if a man is looking at, say through-hulls, they're all in one place. It is a junk sailors paradise. And like I said, the price marked is just sort of a starting point when you get ready to purchase it, if you know what I mean. The "negotiations" of course was always in good form, and my assumption was, he's kind of trying to move some of that stuff, as it is truly packed to the ceilings. I had a ball.

The usual disclaimer: I have no interest in this place one iota. It's just a hot tip for anyone looking to scavenge parts.

The proprietors name is Gwinn, and a local there in Oriental. 252-249-3222

I've not looked at the site yet, but that's what is on the business card.

Oh well, I just looked at the web site. It doesn't even begin to do justice of what is there. The site makes it look like you could carry everything off in your hands, when the truth is, five dump trucks wouldn't move it all...

Often, I saw alot of good parts at very reasonalbe prices. Now if anyone was going to cosign anything to them, then I can tell you from peronal experience that they can be trusted whole heartedly.
