Sail Drive Lifted Thur Hull

S2 8.0B Toledo
During the Great Lakes autumn ritual of hoisting out to dry dock, my '79 S2 8.0B with an Johnson-Evinude OMC sail drive was hoisted out with the lift strap situated under the sail drive lower unit. Yes, there are well maked lift points, and yes, obviously the lift mark indictors where ignored!

The marina took full responsibility for the error, and repaired the damaged. The damage appeared as if the strap slipped off the lower unit just prior to complete seperation of the sail drive from the hull. Only, about 1" to 2" remained connected.

The repair process was documented. The fiberglass flange mount was set in with West System and 404 adhesive. Three layers of chopped fiberglass was feathered inward with West System 105. The area of repair was leveled with West Systems 105 and 410, and West Systems barrier coat was applied. After drying, the area was sanded primed and painted with the same West Marine bottom paint as the rest of the bottom.

Acceptance of the work is pending on a sea trail after next seasons launch.

Although, it seems to be smooth sailing through this murky situation, there is a hint of concern eminating from my gut. This particular S2 only sees water in the bilge, only when there was ice in the icebox; the icebox is designed to drains into it. So, the thought of anything less, or should I say more in this situation, is disconcerting.

Is there any advice on what to focus on at lauch and during the sea trail to verify the repair is seaworthy?
