Sail damage...

Returned home from a club cruise on another member's boat last Saturday only to be informed by fellow club members that my headsail was worked loose, the starboard bow line snapped, the port side layed onto the boat in the next slip over with resulting scraping, and the stern lip damaged from being driven against the dock by the helatious storm the night before.

Can anyone recommend a sail loft on the northern Chesapeake (above Baltimore) that can assess damages, provide an estimate if repairable, and do reasonably good work?

When I bought my boat it was on the hard in Havre de Grace. It needed a new mainsail and North Sails in Annapolis sent a fellow up there to measure the boat and discuss my requirements with me. They did a good job. You may want to call them and see if they still send people all over the Bay. Good luck.

I've seen so many headsail worked loose in high wind, including mine one time. The situation is totally preventable but few do it every time.

All you have to do is to wrap the headsail at least 3 turns after furling and HARDEN SECURED the biter end of the jib sheets and furl line. I've seen people just lay the jib sheets on the deck ;-(

A boat in our club had the bow stem pulled out and the furler foil broke off just because the jib sheets were loose.

Thanks to all...

I made a call to Tidewater/HdG regarding getting a quote for the hull repairs I also need and learned that they were sending a sail down to North Sails/Annapolis on this coming Monday. As Warren pointed out and I learned from some of my Club members, North has a good reputation so I took my sail to Tidewater for them to pick up and evaluate. Have a feeling that it's a $2,200 lawn tarp in the making. :cry:

Rich H: Thanks! I will make a note of the new guy at Green Point (the crew sitting out by the dock building drinking coffee last Saturday morning gave us a wave as we departed--friendly bunch) and pass that info around to our Club fleet.
