I think that if you only want to furl it, all that has to be done is put the correct luff tape on in place of the hanks. If you want to be able to reef it down the sail design becomes more specific as to the location of the clew. As you reef the sail a workable sheet angle has to be maintained. If your genoa is a deck- sweeper, as you roll it up the sheet angle will quickly become too horizontal to control twist in the upper part of the sail. I've had a couple of used jibs re-cut to fit my 192. Both sails required raising the clew. The shape afterward is not as good as a sail designed from the get-go to those dimensions but they have worked well enough for me. If you are planning to win races with your boat you probably don't want to pursue the re-cut of your sail. If you are cruising, I'd go for it. My local sailmaker charged just over $100 for each re-cut.
