I washed all my interior upholstery covers by hand in Woolite without major incident and I would like to do the same with my Hunter blue mainsail cover, Bimini, binnacle, and winch covers. Has anyone had a problem doing this? I think I was told once that certain types of washing can damage the UV protection in these materials. Any thoughts?

Go to the Sunbrella site.

Mike: You can wash your canvas (Sunbrella) in any non-detergent soap. The washing machine is just fine. Do not dry it in the dryer. Check out the Sunbrella Site, they give the the real scoop. I think that it is www.sunbrella.com

Cleaning Sunbrella

A few years ago we cleaned a large camper top from a powerboat with mild soap and a brush. It looked great but it leaked after it was cleaned. We had to apply waterproofing to the canvas after that and it was good as new. They market expensive marine stuff but I found that the cheap stuff works just as well. Barry
