My 7 year old sunbrella sail cover in worn out. there are numerous holes and patches on it.
and the color is now bleeding onto my mainsi when it rains. Seems to me a sail cover should last longer. Anyone had any better luck with another fabric

I am not sure what the fabric is in mine but it came with the boat. I am replacing it this year after 11 years of summer exposure. I have had to restitch it a few times but this year it grew a hole. The inside color is still bright but the outside is sun bleached.

Very unusual for Sunbrella to bleed. I have seen sail covers made of Sunbrella to last for 15-20 years.

Are you sure that it is Sunbrella? What color is it?

I would suggest that you have one made from SBO. Ours is 5 years old and still looks like new.

That can't be sunbrella.
Why do you think it is sunbrella?

I have a sumbrella cover that I just retired due to wear. The color is still solid and the fabric where it has not been rubbed is still good to go. Sumbrella is great resisting sun and weather but does not fare well when you subject it to rubbing. Really needs either leather or sacrificial patches that can be replaced in those situations.

Never

Never heard of that happening and must be some cheap fabric and not sunbrella, don't have this boat with sail cover but have protective sunbrella on jib and inmast main sail, plenty boats have sunbrella sail covers in our marina.

I agree it must be a cheap imitation not the real thing.

I bought my new cover from Lee Sail Covers. They use a fabric called WeahterMax and it wears like iron. After 5 or 6 years now it still looks and feels like new. A big plus is bird poop doesn't stick to it as well as Sunbrella. I'm not knocking Sunbrella but I really like this stuff and Becky is a pleasure to do business with.

A friend bought a NEW 40-something Beneteau with the canvas stuff made by a local shop. When he had to have it repaired in another state, the repair shop it was NOT sunbrella.

When you replace it you may want to think about a stack pack. I am very pleased with mine. It takes all of the work out of handling the mainsail.

when you hoist the main sail do you let the stack pack drop to the level of the foot of your main......
