Sail Cloth Weight

I'm finally getting a new main sail for our 83-H34. Got quotes from several companies. They are recommending anything from 7.3 to 9.0 weight dacron. Can anyone explain why the difference, and which would be best for coastal cruising? What weight cloth is on your main? Also does anyone have any good/bad things to say about a particular sail maker? Thanks, Scott 83-H34 Island Hops

I took advantage of a Sobstad/Hunter special a few years ago and got a full battened main, XVS, at a pretty good price. It has been an excellent sail.
