Am hearing about many ways to get sails clean. I have inherited an older sail in pretty good condition but is mildewed. Any way I can fix it up myself? Heard you could use that stuff called Oxy Clean and it would work. Advice??

simple solution

I have just cleaned my Doyle sails and they came out looking great! I called Doyle and they suggested a mixture of Tide powder and Oxy-Clean. I let soak for 3 days and then scrubbed lightly and rinsed. Very easy!

Where do you find Oxy Clean, Jim?

Jim, I'd love to know where you found that additive. I've had similar success by just using a mild detergent and a small amount of Clorox (not enough to harm the fabric). I've come away with the impression that a long soak is a big help. But I'd like to try Oxy Clean. Jack

Oxyclean is sold just about everywhere

If your grocery store doesn't have it, Home Depot does...Sam's, Costco. Clorox has just introduced their own version of it too.

Thanks All

Thanks for the replies. I will give it a go and let you know how it works out. By the way, WalMart carries OxyCLean as well as most of the larger grocery chains. Good sailing!

Cleans non-skid too

Oxy-Clean is great to use to clean the non-skid on the deck too. Doesn't seem to harm the wax either.
