I want to send three sails off to see if they can have life breathed back into them. Please share experience with this as well as any referrals to companies. Thanks!
We have had excellent sail reconditioning and repair from SailCare (http://www.sailcare.com/).The sails looked like new after they washed, reresined, and repaired them, and still looked good five years later.
Had mine done this time last year. Took a little while to get back but the best move I ever made. My boat is 1994 23.5 and I keep it really clean. Now with the sails cleaned it looks like a brand new boat.Great job and priced right......
We had two guys from our club send there sails back to get Re resined and cleaned. When they came back they looked real nice and almost new. After a few windy days they both ripped along the seam's and had to order new sails. I would see what the price is going to be than weight that against new sails. If the sails blow out after sending them in than it is just money gone. Kinda like buy new tires or getting recaps.Cliff
I have heard good things about Sailcare, but I wash them myself.I figure that you can take the money you would spend on reconditioning and just put it toward new sais. A new main for my C-27 runs about 700 bucks. Washing is free.
I take mine to my local sail loft. He gets cleaning work from all the big name sail makers and is very honest. I tell them not to check the sails, but they do anyway to get the repair work. This saves you a bunch, almost the cost of any repair!Give the local sail maker your business, its good for the community.
I agree with Jim, Whenever possible I like to support local people. Yes, it may cost me a few pennies more here or there, but the convenience is worth something. Also, I make a lot of new friends that way.Regards,Chris
