Sail Cleaning and Repair

Just purchased a 1985 Hunter 25.5 and need to have mainsail cleaned and a few small holes (looks like cigarette burns) repaired. Should I send out or clean and attempt to repair myself? If I send out, any suggestions as to a reputable place? Any idea of cost?Thanks.

I agree with Steve, as usual. A sailor I know delivered his sails himself and got a tour of the plant, which he said was fascinating. But the burning question is: does the unique process by SailCare actually melt the sails to produce the resin? To answer your question on price, I'd say around $200 for main and jib combined. Sail Reconditioning

I had Sailcare recondition my main on my 88 Legend 37. The sail was original and only had about 35% of life left in it. Sailcare's process resulted in the main looking just like the new genoa I purchased. They charged $.85 as square foot. I also had them replace the leathers on the sail and repair one small hole. I was very pleased.They told me that I would probably need to have reconditioned again about 4 to 5 years. After the second season the sail still has plenty of life left in it. You can have them give you an estimate of what needs to be done.Good luck!
