I stumbled across this site following a thread on a different web site. It's a nice tool that calculates anticipated boat characteristics based on hull length, displacement, etc. There's a fairly comprehensive data base that permits comparison between any two boats. Or if your boat isn't in the list you can input the data and it will calculate for you.

The site played a role in my choice of a Pearson 323. The numbers are not absolute but IMHO give a good indication of what to expect from a given boat.

You're right the numbers are only an estimate but I still found them interesting. I checked out my previous boats as well as the new one. Knowing how each performed and handled snotty weather I'd say the numbers are in the ball park.

Be aware that while the information there can be useful, the numbers are only rough guidelines for comparing two boats...and that two boats with similar numbers may in fact be very different boats in reality. Also, not all of the numbers are necessarily accurate.
