Sail Boats And Rv's

Say! Do any of you other sailors out there also do RVing? My fiance and I do. We just returned from a trip out west via RV and visited with his family and friends. We had a blast and saw many things along the way. We went to the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, then to Yellowstone and spent two days getting to see everything including seeing Mount Rushmore spout. I think it spouts about every 30 minutes or so. Then on to Washington State for a few days.. On the way home we stopped at Mount Rushmore and that was awesome. Didn't look too much like the pictures I had seen in history books but still amazing how someone could do all that stone work so well. At Yellowstone we got a lifetime pass for any national park for about $10. Don't get much better then that. Yes we are both senior citizens and plan on spending the rest of our lives happily ever after. By the way, our wedding is in January next year. We saw herds of buffalo who traveled at their own pace, (not yours). You go when they get ready. Had traffic backed up for miles. Now we home and ready to do some sailing if we don't get another hurricane!

I think you meant "Old Faithful" spout. I'd hate to see what orifice Mt Rushmore spouted from.

Did you happen to see anything interesting between the garden of the Gods in Colorado and Yellowstone. I was snowbound in Rabbit Ears pass on June 7 ,1962.

Yes we did. The night we stayed in Yellowstone we were warned about the bears, and about not feeding them, blah! Blah! No, seriously is best to be careful when camping. We did see a lot of snow capped mountains, elk, moose lounging on the grounds of public buildings. We took a lot of pictures. If interested I will try to post some pix.

We have been doing the boat/RV thing now for 10 years. 3-4 months on the boat in HI and 7-8 months in the RV on the mainland. It's a great gig if you can get it.

I had a slide in truck camper for quite a while and we mainly hit areas along the
Appalachian Trail ( My Wife was the membership sec. for ALDHA for some years.) (thats the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Assoc.).
It was fun but I sold it when I got back into sailing.

We split our "fun time" between our SJ 23 and our travel trailer. If we find a lake or dam impoundment we want to sail we return home, hook up the SJ and take it there. We use the boat as a trailer while traveling on the road.
The trailer is a newer style 13 foot and after having been live aboard veterans for the best years of our life, on a 38' IP, we have found that the trailer is perfectly sized for quick set up and packing up. More time for play or quickly returning home to get the boat.

A trailerable boat makes a good RV except for the part of getting in and out. We take our Starwind 223 a couple of times a year on the road and in a couple of occassions have pulled into a campground to get some rest and sleep. The shorepower adapter is a little tricky but we solved the issue. A pull through lot helps.

We found one place at one of the casinos where you could just pull in and it was free! Just plug in. We had dinner at the casino. I think it was the casino called home of $100,000 silver dollars that was displayed on the walls of the casino. We also did a lot of sleepovers in Wally World parking lots and had to run the generator for lights, etc. Don't remember what state we were in. I think we were in twenty states after we finally got back home.

We crossed the country twice in 1962 & 1963. Most of each trip was on US numbered highways before the interstate system was in place. I would do it that way again if I were I to make the trip. The old highways took us through some of the most interesting places that we would have just passed at 60 per on the interstate. We went through almost every small city and town along the way because that was before they were all bypassed.
