Sail boat books?

What is out there in the book world about sailboats (mostly daysailers), and sailboat specs. and maybe pics of models?

Many, many books of "how to sail", but not many of the various models, and there attributes, and comparisons (comparisons as best as any book can...). The internet has many boat sights, but not all the boat info. on them.

Looking for a day sailer ... I think?
I'm starting to focus on the Lightning, or a Rhodes 19, but -
I'm keeping an open mind, want to look at those more closely and others ...

Can't beat Royce's

Little green book called "Sailing Illustrated" by Patrick M. Royce is the best all around sailing book for all types of sailing and sail boat information. Doesn't cost much and is great to keep on board to identify boats, rules of the road, and anchorage behavior to whatever...check it out. Byron...

Sailing Big On a Small Sailboat

"Sailing Big On a Small Sailboat", by Jerry Cardwell. This is an excellent book to help one examine what one is looking for in a small sailboat and discusses these characteristics in detail. He then narrows down the choices to 4 specific boats and describes the pros and cons of each. BrianW

Sailing for Dummies

...is actually quite good for explaining the theory in easy-to-read terms. Lots of tips and advice without overwhelming the reader with jargon.

A few we have found

We've been in the market for a sailboat for about three months. We have picked up several books at Barnes & Nobles which has 3-4 shelves dedicated to sailing. I saw exactly what you asking about last weekend but did not buy it and cannot remember the name. It reviewed 60-70 boats and we passed on it because we have narrowed our choices to 3-4 models. We have found the following books helpful as novices:

Your New Sailboat; Choosing It, Using it - Chapman
Your first Sailboat - Spurr
Sailing fundamentals - Jobson (We like this better than Sailing for Dummies)
Things I Wish I'd Known Before I started Sailing - Vigor
Why Didn't I Think of That?- Roberts
Sailors Secrets, Advice From the Masters - Badham and Robinson
This Old Boat - Casey (a standard sailing reference, but it is the most laborious read for a beginner).
There is also a book on boats electrical systems by Caulder which is standard reference.

I have re-read most of these a few times and they make more sense each time.

The Royces - I have - it's a 1966 book or so (third edition I think)
Has it changed that I should get an updated version, or is it the same?

I"ll print this out and take a look for some of these
