sail battens

I had my sails cleaned this winter. I am having difficulty getting the top two battens back in. I don't know if there was some shrinkage with the sail--battens seem a little too long--cannot get the top two back in the pocket and get the velcro cover back in place. The boat is a Hunter 240. Any suggestions?

Some batten pockets use elastic at the inside to help hold the batten in place. If yours use elastic, maybe the cleaning process stiffened yours or caused them to to wad up or protrude closer to the open end?
