Some of the tops of the safety rail stanchions have broken. This is the piece on top where the cable runs through.

Anyone know if there is any product out there that goes over the end of the stanchion and bolts/pins through?

Maybe time for new stanchions. Contact Garhauer Marine. They have them with or without bases as needed.

Several years ago I bought stainless steel "caps" from Defender Marine. They were on clearance. I think I spent $ 1.00 for each. They were slightly larger than my stanchion. You simply removed the lifeline and placed the "cap" over the stanchion. Then drilled a hole through the stanchion and ran the lifeline. I'll be on the boat this afternoon and see if I can find one with the labeling intact. If so, I'll post the item name and manafacturer. That make looking for something a little easier.

I have been on this site for years and the information has been invaluable. I still wonder why (sometimes) people don't answer the question and and then provide options that have nothing to do with the "root" question.

New stanchions...really? A $1000.00 in parts and hours in labor to address something that may cost $ 15.00 and a couple of drill bits.

But, then...I'm a cheap ass-bastard.

Steve:
If the OP's stanchions are the same model/design as mine (and I have seen pictures of Cherubini H37's with the same), the fitting on the top is zinc-alum (sp?). Mine still look solid, but the nice chrome finish isn't so any more. As to the rest of my stanchions --- standard SS tubes and welds --- are still in fine condition. So probably no need for the OP to replace the whole things. New top caps with the hole/ring for the upper lifeline is all needed.

Nothing wrong with providing different options to address the situation. Let's let the person asking for advice decide what to accept or reject. To curtail the experssion of ideas just because we do not like them will not benefit the exchange of ideas in this forum. Others readers may have similar problems and may opt for a solution different from what the asker may choose. I like the idea of the caps to avoid replacing stanchions and I'm sure them or suitable substitutes can be found in industrial fittings.
