One of the best builders of our time has passed on. Tom Morris was truly one of the best and also one heck of a nice guy. I met and had the opportunity to "talk shop" with him on a few occasions and he was truly passionate about sailing and building no compromise fine boats. It is truly a loss for the sailing community...

We are losing the pioneers of the grp boat industry. We can only hope that they have left disciples who will follow their lead in the business.

Unfortunately, some of the newer people in the GRP boat building business do not have the same sense of integrity and pride that many of the pioneers in the field did. Compare Tim Jackett of Tartan/C&C with Tom Morris. Tom Morris prided himself on the quality of the boats he built and from what I've been told about him, making things right for customers was a part of doing business. Tim Jackett on the other hand is trying to slide out from his responsibilities to honor the warranties that he touts as a selling point of the two boat brands he's responsible for by trying to engineer an assets only sale of his company. Mind you this isn't the first time Jackett has done this.

Anyone who has seen a Morris up close cannot help but admire the man. Fortunately I get to see a lot of them here in Maine. I was slipped next to one of their daysailers in NE harbor last Sep. They really are amazing boats. More of a work of art than a vessel. Unquestionably a yacht.

Indeed a sad day.

I am sure he build GREAT boats but I couldn't afford one. He was a master that is for sure.

Saw my first Morris this summer

"Cheshire Cat" a very new MY48 stopped of at our club on his way out the St Lawrence and across the Atlantic. Beautiful boat. Nice people. Even the rigging was Spectra, each splice stitched through and ends whipped and stitched. Some beautiful joinery on the toe rail.
