On Friday, as we headed down the Chesapeake, we heard the call of a grounded sailboat on the Nanticoke at roaring point. Saturday, we passed by the boat on the way home only to find out it was my dock mate, Ed. He was missing as of 3pm Friday and Coast Guard had given up search. He was a friendly, helpful kind of guy. We spent many days talking across the pier last year as we fixed up our boats. He even welded a stantion for me and when I asked how much, he said just do something nice for someone else.
I watched as DNR towed his boat back and put it in his slip. So sad.

Marc, A truly sad story. It sounds as if he lived true to the sport, helping others. Sorry.

please pass along our condolences. due to health reasons I rarely sail alone anymore. It has been a hard adjustment but so many sailors fall more easily as we grow in age, Sounds as though your friend had helped alot of people but never met a stranger.

sounds like he will be in alot of hearts .

I'm very sorry to hear this news. Friday was very windy and not properly forecast, I had to turn and make a run for it back to port, so I can see how accidents could have occurred.

I know little

All I know is his Watkins 27 was just past Roaring Point on the Nanticoke, beached. Sometimes a swift current, hense the name. He could of fell overboard anywhere past the jetty of Bilvalve harbor. The river is wide, doesn't look it on the map. Lifejacket or not, thats cold water. He was 59 and they haven't found him.

Very sorry to hear of this. It could be any of us.
Not to be flippant, but I'd rather go doing what I love than sick in a hospital.

It's a dangerous time for sure this early in the year ... cold water and far fewer fellow boaters around. I echo zeehag ... be careful!

A few hours ago, I ran into a guy I work with. He has a waterfront home on the Nanticoke, goes home there on weekends. He said the grounded boat was in his neighborhood. He also said he heard recently that 2 women pulled up their anchor, brought the body up with it.
