I removed the zinc from my prop shaft and then painted the shaft and prop with special antifouling paint for props. My question is, will the new zinc work if installed on the shaft over paint or do I need to reomove the paint so that there is contact with the metal? Thanks.

Remove the paint under the zinc

The zinc must make contact with the metals it is to protect. This contact must be either direct like the zinc to the shaft, or must be via a wire like a zinc bolted to the hull and then wired to the various underwater metals. Rich

sacrifical zinc

Good Morning The zinc needs to be metal to metal...without this contact you will 'sacrifice' much more than the zinc!

Mike: Just curious, what kind of shaft and prop paint did you use? Tom L SV Follow the Sun 98 H376

Shaft Paint

I used "Micron 33" which West Marine carries. It comes in a spray can. You also need a primer which is recommended in the instructions. I have never used it before, but it is worth a shot. Use a respirator goggles and gloves if you use it.
