This heater worked great last week after pulling it apart and cleaning out a bunch of carbon from the burner chamber. I also had a coolant leak, fixed now. It was running great all I did when we left the boat after the heater cooled down was turn off the battery switch. Now the controller readout says I have a fault code that say there is an issue with the coolant pump. Cleared the code but it faults back again. All plugs and wire harness is good. Any ideas?
Cheers Hans

What is the make and model of the heater ? Hot air or hydronic ?

Plus all the rest of the information that only those of us who are psychic can divine.
Ralph, I’ll give you a break as it is TGIF.
The title says S3 Espar (or rather Eberspächer) D5E is a hydronic furnace

I’m in the process of planning out the install of the same unit. Not an easy task. I’m toying with the idea of a separate fuel tank to burn kerosene. Can the tank be above the fuel pump and heater? If I tie into the ships diesel is it possible to T into the current Racor filter instead of running a new filter?

The instructions I have for diesel heater say don't do this, the heater needs a separate fuel line. Because this is a heater not an engine, I don't think an expensive Racor filter is needed. The orifice will be larger than the injector and the consequences of the heater getting plugged and stopping are far less severe than an engine.

Another issue might be fuel flow, the fuel line might not be large enough to support both an engine and heater running at the same time.

Not unless the heater has provision for a positive fuel shut off.

Always a good idea to have the fuel suction for the heater to be well above the suction for the engine to avoid leaving the engine without fuel after a long period at anchor.

I have a separate pickup tube feeding the Espar from the diesel tank that it shares with the engine. I installed a very small inline filter to my Espar D5W. The model I have seen recommended is a Mahle/Knecht KL13. I have heard it was/is used in the Volkswagen Bug. I cross referenced and found the equivalent WIX 33011 and Baldwin BF7903. Both of these are readily available. I have seen the Mahle on eBay.
Once a year, I disconnect the Espar fuel line from the pickup tube and place it in a container full of kerosene. As describe in the link, I then run the Espar for 25 - 30 minutes to clear any carbon build up.
