Just purchased an "82" S2 36C with no jib. It has a Harken roller furling. What is a good size to purchase? A #2 (130%) or a #3 (100%) In essence, will the #2 furl well enough to sail in 20 to 30 knots?

My 9.2A is equipped with a Harken furler. I have a 135% and a 155% genoa. I was just on vacation sailing in gusty 15-25kt wind with the 135 rolled to about 80% and no main sail up. The old girl was running at nearly 6 kts. I miss a little performance in lighter air with the 135% versus the 155% but I like the versatility and the ability to roll it nearly half way without loosing much performance.

135 on a 9.2A

I'd recommend going with the larger 135 but be sure to get a foam or rope luff. That ensures better shape when you roll it up. We were out in what had to be 20 knots gusting to over 25 with the sail rolled up to about 110%. The shape of the sail amazed me, as I previously had a boat with a 110% with no foam luff and it's shape reefed was awful.

I was lucky, as my boat came with what I consider an idea assortment of sails. New main, 135 roller with foam luff and an asymmetrical with a sock for the light stuff.
