It can be challenging to have to raise and lower the mast of a 22 footer. If you have a slip or a mooring that will better. Here is an extensive and expensive restoration that may pinpoint some problem areas for you. Is this the boat in Hudson,

i will be in hudson on wed fl probably is it sailable with fixes for day sailing is hudson ok for sailing once out in bay

I am in MA, not FL. For general questions about sailing in that region i suggest you post in Ask All Sailors to get more responses.

Is this your first boat? Do you have any experience? I suggest you contact the local yacht club or sailing center for some help if you aren't getting a surveyor (probably not worth it at that price). They and the current owner can advise about the bay...which according to the charts seems damn shallow. Charts typically show depth in feet at mean low tide...i've never seen less than 1 on a chart before! I'd definitely get some local advice. I would be thinking Hobie Cat with those depths...or a different location.

any issues common to s-2 soft spots

other then that amazing for old boat
very solid

i do know how to sail hudson shallow but there is a channel out to the bay deeper water
i guess go high tide

I just bought an S2 6,8 a couple months ago. Draws only 2 ft. Some models have optional pivoting swing keel. Draws just over 4' 6'' with board down. Very stable forgiving boat. Heavy 1100 lb Lead keel. Great build quality. Looks like it got donated to Boat Angel and sold for $700 on Craigs list. No trailer but still seems like a great deal. Would be interested to hear from whoever got her.
