Hello, I'm getting a new hatch made and am faced with a couple issues.

First, there is a set up fee for the cnc machine and second, the place can only buy 3/4" material in full sheets.

Has someone already plus this out and have that cnc file?

Is anyone else interested in replacing their hatches

My hatch measures out at 24 X 24-1/2"

Is that extra 1/2" that critical

I don't think so. There is a small overhang on all sides and although that seems like it might help with rainfall, any wind and the water would run under the hatch anyways, and be stopped at the gaskets /seals...

The price for each hatch well be approx $200. No hardware or screws or teak...

I think the teak strips will be another $45

Let me know asap

Thanks

Bill

you may want to shop for a drop from a plastic company ......and if you can find 3/4 material it would be in your favor to have it ...as far as the cnc machine thing it is a square piece so just get the material and have it cut on a good table saw and then have them rout the two forward corners it will be much cheaper ...or you can take the old hatch an have a cabinet shop with a router table using a bearing style flush trim bit ...stack the old and the new piece together with some double backed carpet tape and just trace it out on the router table.....

I've talked with Commercial Plastics in Seattle. When ready, I'm going to take them the old hatches and they will make the new ones. Didn't seem to be that expensive and with no minimum of one sheet. They can even do the curved companion way hatches.

Do they have colored acrylic?

And yea, the peace isn't that detailed and could do most of the work myself but with the 40 screws for the teak strips I want then even. I could make a template but at this point an hour of cnc time isn't that much....

The colored material seems to be the big issue. I will prolly go with clear and figure out how to put a screen in the opening for shade. (the dogs stock down below the trim)

If anyone is interested let me know. Payment will be needed up front. I know that may be a big thing but I am very up right person. I can use pay pal and there is some protection there for both ladies albeit not fully.

Payment can also be made to the plastic shop. They are an ebay seller. Bucks woodcraft or something like that...

If you contact them then maybe they can not hold me to the full sheet deal...

Thanks Bill

Commercial Plastics in Seattle, 206-682-4832 has colored plastic, I bought some 3/8" recently for the windows on my S2 9.2A. They have made parts for me in the past.
Or contact Lorin Smith on this forum, he works with plastic and may have some 3/4".
You may have a local dealer who can do the same thing without having to ship parts around the country.

Thanks for the tips.

I called the number you gave and they don't have any..

I will message the other contact to try them.

Local here in marathon Florida is about a five mile strip of land and fifty miles to the mainland... And the one and only shop here doesn't have it and they called their suppliers in Miami and further north.

I'm chasing an albatross... Uggghhh

The plastic I got from Commercial Plastics here in Seattle was 'tinted' 3/8" #2404 Bronze, made by ChemcasttGP. It's 'cellcast acrylic sheet' thermoplastic. They may have a slightly darker tint for your sunnier area, but the #2404 works fine here in the NW.
I have lost the part numbers for the SS screws and seal washers I used that I got at Tacoma Screw Products but will get them soon and send them.
