Hey Guys, my 9.1 is rigged with a yanmar 13hp, the engine is very clean and usually runs perfectly. Last night it just stopped... Half a tank full.. When I try to start it again, it's running for 2sec then stops again.
Any thoughts before I call the diesel mechanic?

check and see if you are getting good fuel flow to the injector pump ...and also check your fuel filters they could be clogged and also that there is no water in them...that is the starting point .....

First change the filters and bleed the lines. If it still doesn't run, then think about calling the mechanic

Any chance you have water in the fuel? Do you have a water separator such as a Racor filter?

I would get a Jerry can of off road (it is died red) diesel and see if she'll run from that after you change the filters and bleed the lines. Many marinas carry it and many up north heat their homes with it.

If your fuel does have water (siphon some and put it in a jar) you can run it through a Baja filter a few times to clean it up. I run all new fuel through one to stop problems before they start. Mr Funnel is one brand and I suggest the 15 gal/min to make it easier at the has dock.

This sounds like a fuel problem to me but I'm no diesel mechanic just learning as I go. A great book I highly recommend is Nigel Calder's Boatowners Electrical and Mechanical Manual for a good guide to these type of issues.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, I found that the problem was air in the fuel line. I was running in choppy conditions with 1\2 tank and some air got into the fuel line. All I had to do was to bleed the lines and she started just fine!

Now I'm running the thanks full as much as I can.
