s2 10.3 shoal draft vs deep draft

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but just had a question. Im looking at a 1983 s2 10.3. Someone mentioned that there's a 10.3 which is shoal draft and another which is deep draft. How do I tell the difference? And is there any difference between the rigging in the two boats?

10.3 is a racing design. There might not be a shoal draft for that reason. http://sailboatdata.com/VIEWRECORD.ASP?CLASS_ID=1877 shows the draft as 6 feet. The waterline to the bottom of the keel will be that.

Shoal draft will be obvious. Keel will be much longer and shorter like this http://www.yachtworld.com/core/list...sapeake-City/MD/United-States&boat_id=2228684

Do you have prior sailing experience? A 34 foot racing design is a lot of boat otherwise.

All I'm saying is that a cruising boat is a much more forgiving experience. Also, I solo sail my thirty footer all the time. Picking the right boat can make the difference between whether you enjoy yourself or not.
