I will try this post again! I own a 1983 H31 and I am attempting to install an S1 Wheelpilot Rudder Reference Unit. Has anyone performed this install and could you offer any words of wisdom and/or photos? Thanks, Greg W.

Me Too....Soon

I will also be installing a S1 unit on my boat soon. It's still in the box and I have reviewed the directions a few times. Steve Dion, If you have a chance to respond, I'm curious where your rudder post is as it doesn't show in the photo. Also, on my '86 H31 I was planning to install the reference unit on the underside of the cockpit floor, upside down, because I don't think the cowl cover would be strong enough to hold it in place. Any comments, from anyone, will be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the photo - That will help us complete the install. We have dropped the Q-berth overhead pan for access. Just need to map out how to complete. I would imagine that once you figure how to mount, it shouldn't take too long. Greg W.

Yes Gil.

Gil: Yes, you will need to install it upside down. This is really not a problem. You will just want to be sure that you position it so the rudder is in the center position and remember that the rudder sensor is spring loaded. Be sure to line up the lines that align with the cord. It really needs two set of hands to get the positioning correct. I would also suggest that you have a large square or straight edge to align everything correctly. PS: The rudder post below the quadrant that you see in the photo. If you turned this photo over it will look similar to your setup.

Thanks Steve...

Thanks for confirming my (hopeful) strategy for installing the S1, and about a square. The hard part will be getting another set of hands.
