I'm about to install the Raymarine S1 autopilot to my Hunter 336 (1995). I don't know how to install the rudder sensor because lack of space around the quadrant. Who managed this before ? Any suggestions regarding locations for the other components are also highly welcome.

Try it in front

I know the Raymarine install diagram shows it to the side, but I put ours in front of the quadrant on our 35.5 and it works fine.

Direction of installation

PJ, thanks for the suggestion. Did you install it at right angle to boat centerline, or how do you manage the geometry with the fixed length bar between quadrant and rudder angle sensor ?

S1 Rudder Sensor

Check the archives as I posted some photos where I installed it on the bottom of the quandrant just above the quarterberth in my 1983 H31. Greg W "SlipAway"

Instal Solution

P.J has it right. Ignore the Raymarine figure and install it with the threaded link bar running parallel to the keel.

S1 rudder sensor - H336 installation

Thanks to all - I'll try over the weekend and take a few photos. There seem to be more out there with the same issue.

geometry

Rudder sensor threaded rod parallel to the boats center line offset to port on the quadrant drive wheel a couple inches. This will give it the proper push pull geometry. Base of sensor to starboard. It worked for me..... Don't forget to go through the cal steps in the Raymarine comissioning guide.
