Hurricane Frances took her toll on Central Florida. This evening I went to check on my h-23,"WindSong". It and two other sailboats at Aunt Catfish Restaurant in Port Orange was completely destroyed. Pilings are gone. Fiberglass everywhere. She was a good friend and a heck of a fun boat. She will be remembered with love. Dave Laing

I can't imagine

I've only been a sailor and boat owner for three seasons now. I can't imagine losing the boat after all the fiddling I've done in this short time already. The fact that my sailing is restricted to "seasons" makes me long for a retirement location with year-round sailing, perhaps even joining my fellow Canadian "snowbirds" in Florida. It makes me wonder, if I may ask an insensative question at this sorrowful time, if such losses are covered by insurance? If so, are the premiums resonable enough such that most boats have the coverage? ...RickM...

Curious...

why didn't you pull the boat out of the water? Seems like you were pretty much in the bullseye from day 1.

Sympathies

You certainly have my sympathy. To most sailors our boats are more than just inanimate objects. Sorry for your loss. Ron Mehringer h26 Hydro-Therapy

Will you replace her?

I've been wondering this about all the "total loss" boats. Will you replace her with a new boat, simlar boat, or get out of boat ownership? Of all boats lost, I wonder what percent will do a, b, or c above? Any guesses

The best remembrance

for a loss like yours is to treasure the memories and keep sailing. A replacement boat may not be the same as your lost boat, but the joy of wind and water will be. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo

My condolences

I feel your grief- We spent last week with Frances-More trial and tribulation than a person should have to take! Unicorn did well, and all were safe but it was an epic battle against the elements but such is the life of a sailor! So a fond toast to fine boats that grand dreams start-For each sails on in memory but is always moored in your heart!
