There was a lively discussion recently about Rick Santorum's bill regarding NOAA with LOTS of different interpretations. Boat US just had a write-up on it that I believe had to have been checked out by their lawyers before printing. To quote Boat US " S. 786 would RESTRICT NOAA's broadcasting to emergency weather, like hurricanes and tornados and permit private companies like AccuWeather and The Weather Channel to get all of its daily weather information from NOAA for free. These companies would then turn around and sell the CONTINUOUS weather updates to the public that NOAA used to provide for free." and " S. 786 would ONLY allow NOAA to issue severe weather warnings to the public when conditions were life threatening." What say those of you who contended this would not really affect how NOAA interacted with the public? This is NOT something that needs to be taken away from us and given to private industry. Phil was nice enough to let this go on last time, let's try to keep the political name calling out of it.
