I have come across several RV propane stoves for just over $100 USD - even stainless steel. Any idea if these are usable on boats? It seems that the marine ones are 3 times the price. Cheers, Rob

Do they have all the parts

I don't know if there are any specific marine requirements. Otherwise, sounds decent priced. Are they gimbaled? How about pot holders.

Marine specifications

ABYC has several specifications relating to LPG and Galley stoves; which an R/V or camping stove may not meet. Some specifics can be paraphrased from section A-3: - Safe for 30 degree tilt in any direction (gimbled) - Pot holders to prevent sliding - Limits on temperature rise around stove as installed

Thanks for the reply JC and Gord...

I may be able to adapt the gimble mechanism from my current kerosene stove/oven to fit it. Now my next question is - if many of the marine stoves (such as the Origo 3000) are not gimbled and do not come with potholders, would they not fit the criteria either? I'm sure my boat doesn't meet much of the ABYC requirements out now (such as my electrical wiring nightmare that I have slowly been replacing). If I installed something new on the boat that was not ABYC standards, would that void my insurance? My rant of the day: I'm sick of RV'rs getting their parts for a quarter the cost us boaters do. Why do we pay for and install these so called "marine" items at the huge markup they want us to pay? Why are we held ransom by the one main marine supply store that seems to set all these overinflated prices? Cheers, Rob

thanks for the input, all...

I will take all that into consideration. I think I will save up and get the Origo marine stove. For this year, I'll continue to use the kerosene stove. Its a little unnerving seeing the large preheating flame before its lit, but I'm sure after I use it more I'll get used to it. If not, I can barbeque off the stern rail and plug into shore power to use the microwave to cook the rest! Life's good...I'm going sailing! Cheers, Rob
