Hello all,
My Catalina 22 is out of the water and is lifted up on an 'A' frame. To make a long story short, one bolt was missing from the swing keel pivot mount and one bolt was rusted and broken off, so the keel was rocking back and forth while I was sailing. Well, our first approach to remove the rusted bolt was to add PB Blaster and try to screw it out by what little bit was still showing. That didn't work as we broke what little part was showing off. Next, we began to drill up into the bolt with a titanium drill bit and all was going fine until we broke the bit off in the rusted bolt. We do not believe that the rusted bolt was stainless steel, on account of how easy the drill bit went through on the first pass. But, I cannot drill pass the titanium drill bit to get a screw extractor in there to accomplish my original goal.
Does anyone have any experience removing a rusted bolt such as this one? And if so, how did you do it? The bolt size is 3/16th.
Any help would be awesome.
