My keel bolts were mildly rusted as I noticed while inspecting the bildge pump. I sanded them to a clean shine but I am not sure what to coat them with for protetion.I imagine rust resistant paint would not work.any suggestons would be helpfull.

What about putting

some Ospho on them Maine Sail? Would that hurt? It is supposed to convert Iron Oxide (rust) to Iron Phosphate and stop/prevent further oxidation. Maybe just cleaning them up really good with a lot WD 40 might help. It is supposed to act as a good preservative.

Absolutely NO on "ospho" .....

Dry them, a wee bit of oil... but NO ospho. If intergranular corrosion has begun (in the at the roots of the threads, etc.) Ospho or any other 'acid' will make it WORSE. A thin coat of oil or a thing coat of wax is air-permeable; the 'best' is 'dry'. If you see a lot of 'rust bloom' at the base of the nuts/washers, then consider in the near-term future to drop the keel and 'inspect the bolts'.
