When I brought Katia up from Mexico and was at sea for a couple of
weeks she developed minor rust staining on the hull below the shrouds
and below most of the forward (underwater) lifeline stanchions. In
Ensenada I stopped a day and got the teak oiled and the hull cleaned
up. . .the fellow used some sort of a chemical cleaner to take the rust
stains right off. Fast forward a couple of years, now it's time to
haul out and buff and wax the hull, paint the bottom (I've kept it
scrubbed off under water) and grease the prop. She has new rust
streaks under the shrouds again. I've tried oxalic acid to no avail.
So what is the magic chemical?
Thanks in advance. . .Ken Preston
PS--had a fabulous sail last weekend. . .must have been a frontal
passage or something, I kept getting gusts that put the rail way under
and splashed water on the lee windows. . .with two reefs in the main
and six rolls in the jib! I swear she was surfing on the little chop.
