Rust Spots

I am in the process of a facelift on my 81 27' Hunter. Thanks to all who advised on the non skid paint. I followed the hints and it is beautiful. Now, please don't call me those names behind my back, I refininshed all the teak on the topside and entryway doors. Being a novice I used steel wool...I know..only bronze wool will do. Now I have some rust spots topside, in fact, I have a lot of those little rust stains. What is the best way to clean without damage? I tried a slightly abrasive paste wax and no will do. Any ideas??

I had a similar "Duh!" moment when I used a power cutter to remove a seized anchor shackle. I didn't notic all the little iron filings on the deck so I didn't clean them off... Duh!My problem is compounded by the rust seeping into the oxidized gelcoat surface. I tried some rust remover products that didn't work. What seems to work OK is any concentrated acid based cleaner. I've tried oxalic, hydrochloric and phosphoric based products. All seem to work OK when selectively applied and watched carefully. I just drop a bit on the stain, let it do its thing for about 30 minutes and then hose off. The drawback is the hassle of working with fairly toxic stuff in close quarters and keeping it off of things that would dissolve, like aluminum. To: Ron Johnson - Where do you get Magica?Jim"Prospect"
