Also, if in the water and you can't get under to see it, check your keel bolts, if they are bolts, it's cast iron, studs with nuts, it's lead.

Ya sorry about that, I'm wrong, cast can have both studs and bolts, lead can't

I recall seeing it both ways with lead on the bolts/studs with nuts but not sure as it has been years.

Our '08 36 has a lead keel. Our '91 h30 had iron. When we hauled for bottom paint i had the yard wire wheel off the rust areas then they applied a rust neutralizer like phosphoric acid (Ospho), then epoxy coat then fare over any big pits and bottom paint.
