Hi guys , no engine problems in 5 years from 2nd owner. Went to a great marina on my honeymoon no less, and had a new raw water intake strainer and new water pump and new water and gas seperater. And new thermostat and cover , wires etc. On the way home on the honeymoon it stalls out , no water pumping out. Waited a few hrs and brand new again . 5v times this year with no ryhme or reason could run for 7 or 10 hrs. at a time and with no warnning boom , no water pumps out , but hrs later boom. The head mgr at the marina who fixed it back then said , old engine and the sediment builds up at aany given time. He sent me a new 90 degree elbow at the thermostat and said take it off and clean it out when it happens , done that and even shot out the incomming hoses with a water hose to possibbly shooot it out , no good. So what gives the new water pump is ok or else it wont run at all. help

Hmmmm...

Paul, Does the water stop coming out before the engine dies? My first thought is your impeller. There's also a plate on the side of the engine that's supposed to be taken off periodically. It opens the cooling "area" inside the engine for you to clean out any sediment , etc. Good luck. Sam

water pump

I just had to eat a pedistal pump, brand new. The part that the impeller spins in was a little to deep which allowed water by the impeller. It would work sometimes. The pump was at about the water line and would prime sometimes.to check close the thru hull, disconnect the hose at the thruhull, put a longer hose on the outlet side and try blowing thru it. should not get any air or just a little by the impeller. I doubt if this is the problem because the pump on that end of the engine is probably below the waterline. The pump I was talking about was mounted above the starter on freshwater cooling. A piece of impeller from days past could be causing you problems. I would start pulling off hoses and checking them for pieces. I would also pull the elbows on the manifold, it is strange how they can build up a layer of stuff around them. I would also check where the water enters your exhaust. I am guessing you have something floating around in your hoses or manifold. Get an adapter at ace hardware, it will screw on your garden hose and has a 1/2 inch hose barb on it. back flush the manifold with it and also the hose from the thermostat to the tee fitting. take the hose off the water pump for this one. you might be due for a acid flush. I assume you have raw water cooling. will

humm. choke choke..

the water does stop coming out before the engine dies, however it really is always dribbling. It is never full force. But yes it does stop after the water stops coming out... also I opened the link to the plate... I know what this is...but you mentioned the side?? Is there another plate that you are talking about? thanks Sam...
