Running temps

Have a Universal marine 25 XP diesel engine. I'm curios what the normal running temps for this is.

Almost 90% of the time, while at cruising rpm's (2,200)I run at 160. That 10% of the time I run at full throttle, or almost 3,000rpm for 20 minutes or more, temps will creep up to 175 or so......on occasion, as much as 180, but never over that.

Typical operating temp should be 165-deg., which is what the standard thermostat is for that engine. With a clean, 3" heat exchanger that temp should not change regardless of how hard you run the engine.

There are two thermostats: 160 & 180.
