Is the midship traveler main sheet really 72 feetof 7/16" per rigging specifications (1978 C30 TRBS)?Also the vang is specified as 5/16" by 35 feet. Could 3/8"be substituted? As you can see from the photo, my recently purchased C30 isin dire need of new lines.Thanks in advance.Steve

I just re-rigged my 30

Steve.I just replaced my jib and main sheets, traveler and boom vang lines. The previous owner had 1/2 on the jib sheets, but I replaced with 7/16. After the fact I can see why he chose 1/2! The self-tailing winch's seemed to hold the 1/2 better over my newly replaced 7/16. Without three turns around the drum, it seems to slip. Check this out before you purchase a jib sheet. The vang is 3/8th, which fits the sleeves well, but I only purchased 25 feet. Main sheet was just fine with 7/16.RegardsBob'88 Cat 30

try washing the line

Put the lines into a mesh bag and run it thru your washing machine on gentle cycle. Hang it to dry inside somewhere. See if the line is servicable and maybe you could save a lot of money. Worst thing that can hapen is you wasted some water, detergent, and time.

Lines

I agree with Joe...wash the existing lines and I think you will find they are not as bad as they seem. I bought a C25 in 2000 and the lines looked like yours do. Sold it in 2004 with the same lines only cleaner.

New lines

I just replaced all the running rigging on my '84 C30 for two reasons. First, some of the lines were frayed and were not smooth going through the different hardware on deck. Second-I have been sailing with a lot of non-sailors this year and decided that making each line a different color would be better than trying to teach sailing while we were tacking on SF Bay. It is much easier to say tighten the "red" line instead of adjust the jibsheet.
