running lights and anchor light

Hi Folks,

I have a question about the pull-on switch in the cockpit that turns on the running lights. Mine has three positions--1. in 2. half-out 3. all-out. The "in" position is all lights off. But positions 2 and 3 both turn on all running lights. It seems
like one position should just turn on the anchor light. How is it supposed to function?

Thanks,
Nathan

You will have to confirm this but one position is probably red/green with
the stern light for sailing and the other position adds the steaming light
for when you are under power.

Thanks for all the great comments on lights. Very informative and helpful.

I'm still not sure how my switch is designed to work. I no longer have the Volvo diesel motor, but I have all the original controls, as far as I know. I would love to know how the controls for the series 2 lights originally worked.
-What do the 3 positions of the plunger (pull-on) switch do? (Obviously, first position is "off".)
-It seems logical that one position is for the port-starboard-stern lights, and one position for those lights plus the white motoring light half way up the front of the mast. If so, how was the anchor light controlled on the original series 2?
-Did the series 2 originally have an anchoring light on top of the mast? (Mine didn't have a light on top of the mast when I bought it.)

Thanks,
Nathan
