I have a question regarding the running the Jib Sheets for the newer H33's (2004 and newer). We normally run our jib sheets inboard of the stays and only run them outboard when we use the outer fairlead. Does anyone run their jib sheets outboard of the stays to the inner fairleads? If so what is your experience? It looks like it would chafe the sheets.

I run mine between the stays and always use the outboard fairleads. That way the sheets are run back to the winches beside the helm where I can tack easier. I also bought the plastic covers for the stays, for both the sheets and hands when we go forward.

Plastic stay covers? First I heard of those. Normally we run our sheets as you have them but to the inboard fairleads. It seems that running your sheets in the manner reduces how far out you can fly the jib.

Snap on Cable Covers

I often run DDW and have no problems. If you run them outside do they not rub when you sheet in?

If I run on the outside fairleads unless the jib is full out the sheets rub against the stays. Besides that with the sheets on the outside I cannot sheet in the jib close in. It is a pain moving them in and out so we just keep them on the inside.

I was going to say that I tack a lot in my area, so like having the jib sheets on the stern winches besdie the helm, then I looked at your lake... Must be interesting sailing with a West wind?

I usually leave the jib out full and furl the main as the wind builds, and then furl the jib if it gets stronger. But, I can see your point about getting the jib in closer, I just live with the reduced performance for convenience.

Ahhh, OK now it makes sense. OK. Yes we get west winds and some pretty stiff ones at that! Your area looks beautiful! Must be wonderful not to be landlocked! What is your season? Ours is May 1 (if the lake melts) to October 1.

Season runs late April to mid October, depending how warm it stays in the fall. we've been out in shorts mid Oct. ( Canadian thanksgiving) Our marina will launch/haul anytime we're ready with a travel-lift

We can easily go for days / weeks. Local cruising is the Eastern shore of Georgian Bay 30,000 Ilsands, further is the North Channel and further, is all the Great Lakes and beyond.

Georgian Bay

Our usual trips, like the pics above, are the 3 Islands on the left in the Google map ( Christian Island of Gordon Lightfoot fame ( legend of the Edmund Fitzgerald ) ) . We are based at the south end of the long narrow bay in Penetanguishene. The closest island is 3-4 hours sail, depending on wind, the north island is 4-6 hours, which makes them perfect for the weekend. 1-2 weeks holidays is as much sailing and as far as you want to go...... :D

Absolutely beautiful. Looks like a great sailing area. Your weekend and week runs sound very similar to ours up here. Our lake is 153 miles long and almost completely undeveloped. Many, many beautiful bays.
