The spinnaker halyard on my 56 ft mast broke. My problem is that the mast has internal halyards. Does anyone know how to re-run them?

I would have someone hoist me to the top...

along with the new halyard, fish it down the mast and have the deck person retrieve it with a coat hanger. Our boat has integrated mast sheaves at the step. Terry

Bike chain

I have tried the following with success when in your situation: Attach a 18" long length of bike chain to the end of the new halyard and feed that down from the the masthead sheave. The weight and flexibility of the chain help it find its path down inside. Watch for the chain as it appears in the mast exit and fish it out with a stiff wire hook. Good luck!

Kinda Like

Merril, except I use a small fishing weight and some nylon line, trot, chalk line, etc. for a messenger line. I find that the line is easier to fish out of the opening port. If you do this, be sure to use a weight smaller than the exit port on the mast. Luck!
