I sail a 2005 Hunter 33 and when under power the rear berth smells of fumes. Do sailors typically turn on the blower while under power if planning on sleeping in the rear berth?

Thanks

Yes we do and for the reason you mention. It also helps cooling the engine compartment faster. I installed this blower two years ago and it makes a BIG difference.

YES

My wife got me started using the blower when ever motoring since the boat was new and I even open a rear berth hatch that opens in the cockpit,it helps get rid of heat and any odor also.
I don't have fumes per say but we do get a lot of heat from the engine compartment and it did seep in to our rer berth but I have added weather striping to any open doors and running tthe exhaust blower really helps keeping things cooler here in Florida

We had same problem with our 2004 H33. Blower helps. I also added foam insulation around the border of the 2 small access hatches, both aft and starboard. This made a big difference..

Two things, 1. Remember, if you have an auotmatic fire extinguisher the blower will suck the fire retardant out of the engine room if the estinguisher activates and, the blower is on, and it won't put out the fire. 2. I also have a 2005 Hunter 33 and found that the coupler to the mixing elbow had cracked and was leaking exhaust into the engine compartment. It wasn't until the coupler broke completely that the fire estinguisher went off. After replacing the coupler we have had no hint of fumes in the cabin.
