My boat sat on the previous owners private dock for a month while I rebuilt the engine and reinstalled it. Last week I motored it around in the channel behind his house, just to make sure the motor worked.
This past Friday I show up at the boat, do some last minute wiring and spend the night on the boat. Saturday morning I set out on a 40 mile motoring trip from Flour Bluff to Rockport Tx, along the ICW to a boat yard to do the bottom.
After assuring the PO that 'I was good', he gave me a shove off and threw my dock line aboard. I start motoring and wave, then he waves...both arms! I hear the word water and look over the stern and, no water going out with the exaust. I forgot to turn the seacock on. I go to jump through the companionway and a gust blows my bimini top down and hits me in the head, just as I round the corner away from his house. Dignity at an all time low at that point. All that under control and the bimini secured, half way across Corpus Christi bay 30+ winds shred my old bimini stiching. At that point I thought 'I should have bought a motorcycle instead.'When I got across and the wind died down, I got that under control. 6 or 7 hours into the trip, I lock the wheel, cruising along at 4 knots, I walk up to the bow and sit down. I thought 'I wonder how far away from the chanel markers I can get'...then I found out. It's where the water is shallower than the draft of the boat. I sat there for 1.5 hours until a power boat came by who knew how to get me unstuck. I spent Saturday night at a random dock, make it to House of Boats Sunday morning where my wife meets me to spend the night and bring her family to show them our new boat. They all get out of the car and a guy that lives in his boat goes walking by in some tight brown underwear, he was like 60. They are all like 'what the hell was that?' I guess he thought that on a Sunday no one would be around, and he could get ALL his clothes clean on laundry day.
I scraped the bottom a month ago.
1.The pic with all the growth is only 4 weeks with old bottom paint.
2.I had a broken prop also.
3.And dinner with my family.
