Running a Halyard

I have discovered the best way to run a new internal halyard. This will involve a mast ladder and not a bosun's chair. 1. Get a good friend that is NOT afraid of heights. 2. Get beer, NOT for friend, he can have some L8R. 3. Sew a small bolt onto the end of new halyard, you should have about 5-6 inches of small string before line. 4. Tell friend he can have a beer when he comes down. Now this may take some coaxing to do, especially when its hot. 5. SLOWLY LOWER new halyard. 6. Find wifes curling iron metal hook thing. When Halyard is present just put it in there and hook onto new halyard and pull out. 7. Give friend a beer. The nut on the end of line will also allow you to hear the halyard coming down. You will actually hear a small clinging sound as the line is passed down. If you don't hear you know it got hung up. I also have my electrical wires glued to the side with a plastic covering so my electrical wires should be good. I HOPE. Cheers TJ

Chain instead of bolt.

If you have problems getting enough weight with a bolt which is small enough to go through the various holes you can use a short piece #35 rolloer chain similar to of bycicle chain only smaller, it will flex round any sheaves etc. and still have sufficient weight to do the job required. You might also try the ball chain they sell at Home Depot lighter but easier to get!

Use dog collar chain

Using a chain dog collar is an old trick used by telephone installers when they need to snake a line down inside a wall. Those chains are almost like liquid metal and just seem to find their way down. Ron Mehringer Hydro-Therapy
