Yes, this is a tank-less demand type heater. Only kicks on when you turn on the hot water tap. What worries me is the .5 GPM rating. That is not a lot of water per minute.

you have what i had on my boat ....sea water cooled only engine /no heat exchanger ...i got a closed system by getting a 2gm20f engine and installing it ...if you don't want to do that then i will suggest you look at a solar bag for your shower water or stay plugged in to the dock...i will say that the tankless hotwater heater is and will do what it says it will do but on a boat our size that is a big no no and until you upgrade you will not ever be happy....good luck
