I have heard of connecting the rudder to the outboard motor for better steering in tight places. How is this done? Who makes it. thanks

Make Your Own Or Buy It...

You can check the archives for some examples of homemade rudder attachments. There are some photos in the photo forums showing the rudder attachments. If you want to buy a rudder attachment commercially, a company in Washington state sells it. The company is called E-Z Steer, their website is www.ezsteer.com. Fair winds. Clyde

$30 and works great

I went to an outboard shop and found a generic one for $25, had to add a bolt through the tiller post (hole was already there) and it was done. The connection rod is made of all thread so can be cut to any length. It made a difference on my 240.

homemade connector

I made a connector using two pintles I found in the clearence section at WM bolted on each end of a 1" x 1" x 2' piece of hardwood. On one end, the pin points up and and fits into the metal slotted piece on the front of our Honda outboard secured with a spring clip. The other end has the pin pointing down and slides into a hole I drilled on the cast part of the rudder (the part that the steering cables are attached). It has worked great all summer and makes manuevering at the marina a breeze (it needs to be removed when tilting the motor up). Total cost: ~$25.
