You can check the archives for some examples of homemade rudder attachments. There are some photos in the photo forums showing the rudder attachments. I went to an outboard shop and found a generic one for $25, had to add a bolt through the tiller post (hole was already there) and it was done. The connection rod is made of all thread so can be cut to any length. It made a difference on my 240.
I made a connector using two pintles I found in the clearence section at WM bolted on each end of a 1" x 1" x 2' piece of hardwood. On one end, the pin points up and and fits into the metal slotted piece on the front of our Honda outboard secured with a spring clip. The other end has the pin pointing down and slides into a hole I drilled on the cast part of the rudder (the part that the steering cables are attached). It has worked great all summer and makes manuevering at the marina a breeze (it needs to be removed when tilting the motor up). Total cost: ~$25.
