My question: The metal fitting at the top of the rudder post, to which the tiller is bolted, cracked in the recent storm. I have a new (aluminum fitting) but how do you get the old fitting out of the top of the rudder post. The old fitting appears to be some type of composite that came with the new rudder I bought in 1998. Thanks, Larry Jean

Rudder post is one piece

Well you have confused me. On my 1971 P26, the rudder post is a solid piece of metal that runs all the way down to the rudder. There is nothing to separate. YOu unbolt the tiller, take out the bolt that holds the collar that holds the rudder in the boat and drop the rudder with the rudder stock out the bottom. Do you have a different setup? Mike

Stainless Steel Rudder Post

My rudder was built about 5 years ago and has a stainless steel shaft at the top of which an aluminum piece is inserted that has a connection for the tiller. The aluminum piece broke and I need to get it out so I can put in a new piece and I was wondering if anyone know the best way of removing it. I have read that on the aluminum shafts, orginally used by Pearson, the top piece I am referring to was also aluminum and was welded into the shaft. Mine was clearly not welded. Larry Jean
