Dear All, Imagine my delight, when out sailing this weekend - enjoying the forst decent weather we've had over here this year when I peered over the transom to see a crack right round the top of the rudder blade! As anyone else suffered specifically this problem on either a 240 or 260? I looked at the forum and was amazed at the number of general rudder delamination problems but didn't see any for smaller boats. If so what was Hunter's response - my boat is now nearly 4 years old, but this is obviously a fairly major failure - luckily I was not far from home. If anyone has had a similar failure - did you fix it, if so how or did you take the expensive option and buy a new one? Thanks in advance for any input Tim Osborne Pelagia - Portsmouth UK

Call Hunter & Foss Foam

Tim, I had a hard grounding and bent my rudder and eventually had it fall off. Through the hole ordeal (approx 2 months) I was in contact with Foss Foam & Hunter. Both were wonderful and very helpful. I also recieved some great ideas from this forum. Good Luck!!!

Warranty

I'd contact Hunter ASAP. If your boat is 4 years old there's a chance it might be covered under the 5-year "hull" warranty. Not sure, but worth checking into.

Rudder Splitting Continued...............

Hi Tom & Tim, ( I like names that are short and to the point! ) Thanks for you input - I've been in touch with Hunter's agents over here in the UK, who have been great. They came down immediately with their digital camera and sent photos over the Hunter. However, we discussed the warranty thing, and they pointed out that the warranty only covers the hull and reaally only covers the underwater part of the hull, that could be subjected to osmosis. He did think however they may offer some form of good will gesture as at the end of the day, this could have been a fairly catastrophic failure - in the wrong set of circumstances. Thought you may be interested in the warranty angle - hope none of us ever have the occasion to use it, but you may find it more limiting than you had hoped. Thanks once again Tim
