Rudder Skeg Seam

In getting my 1980 Hunter 30 "Tense Moments" ready for spring launch, I noticed that caulking material has pulled out of a seam where the rudder skeg meets the hull. Since the skeg is bolted, the seam does not appear to need anything to add structural strength. I plan on running 3M 5200 into the joint but I would like some thoughts from another owner who has seen this same thing.

Skeg

Rick, go into the aft portion of the hull and check the skeg bolts. Make sure they are tight. I had the same problem a while back and found that the lag bolts were rusted through. Hunter used galvanized instead of stainless. Don't let this go another season without checking it out. -Roland s/v Fraulein II
