Experiencing seepage from rudder shaft stuffing box on 1980 Hunter 33. Can seal be replaced in water? Suggestions for freeing corroded threads on box?How often should packing be replaced?

Don"t be afraid to unscrew packing nut on your 33 rudder post. All you will get will be seapage. There is a pretty close tolarance between the shaft and sleeve.Plan to use 1/4"or smaller packing. The problem is getting your arms and hands in there to work while the end of the q birth digs into your ribs(pad it with a blanket) questions e mail dbaker3598@aol.com
